Production and Assembly of Tensile Structures

High quality products require process safety for all processing stages

Based on the geometry required by the static conditions and/or intended from an architectonic point of view, the layout model is developed with the help of special FEM programs. Prior to this, the expansion behaviour of the material used has to be determined through so-called biaxial tests. This is the only way to ensure that the membrane structure will be able to resist static loads afterwards and to avoid "wobbling" through sufficient preload.

The single templates are cut by state-of-the-art cutters which will afterwards be welded together to form one surface taking the material properties in account. Thanks to our self-made machines and tools the high quality of the weld seam is always guaranteed. Our vast in-house quality assurance program as well as our testing lab assures the constant quality of the product.

The hot gas welding and wedge welding methods applied in the construction of tents and in the production of tarpaulins are not suitable for mechanically or pneumatically prestressed permanent buildings

High frequency welding is used for PVC-coated polyester fabrics.
Where a dirt-repellent PVDF varnish is required, the coating has to be ground off precisely prior to welding in order to ensure the strength of the seam. Due to the thermal stress - especially in the case of the HF welding method - it is important to preload the seam area during the welding process. This can be compared to the processing of silicone-coated glass fabrics where additional welding aids are used in the seam area.
The heating bar welding method is chosen for PTFE-coated glass fibre fabrics.
Perfect seams are ensured by correctly setting the temperature, weld time, pressure and cooling under pressure parameters. Due to the material's high bend sensitivity, particularly careful handling of the material and the use of matched machine technology are required to assure good quality.
The filmy ETFE foils are processed by means of continuous heat-pulse welding methods or through gentle laser technology. Computer programs will continuously control the welding parameters for this particularly sensitive material.

The assembly of pneumatically or mechanically preloaded structures require special expert knowledge. High prestress loads often require additional assembly state calculations with respect to the bearing structure. Atmospheric exposure is another important element with regard to the execution of the assembly. In the event of strong winds or low temperatures, the assembly of the relatively lightweight membrane surfaces is hardly possible.

Textile architecture can be compared to a prefabricated house. The bearing structure can be assembled in parallel with the running membrane manufacture. Afterwards, membrane elements will be assembled and preloaded. Many years of experience in the handling of different materials, good planning, appropriate tools and a well-attuned Ceno assembly team assure the successful and efficient implementation of each project.

Correct implementation of the erection tasks required are carried out on site by trained specialists. These support all steps for erection, beginning with positioning the anchoring elements, through the erection of the supporting construction, also erection of the cable/membrane constructions and the mechanical or pneumatic application of the pretension calculated by the engineers, up to construction acceptance and transfer.
