Tensile membrane were used at the World Athletics Championships`99, were the premiere event was held at this impressive Stadium. It is situated on the Cartuja Island, the former Expo-site in Seville, which was opened to the public in May 1999.

The tensile membrane for the roof of this grandstand, consist of total 44 membrane panels with a surface of 700 m2 each, which was mounted to an edge-collar-rope structure. The design of the tensile membrane which is reminiscent of patio architecture projects freely reaches 40 m towards the inside above the grandstand galleries. The overall seating area covers 60.000 seats under this roof.
